7 Naming Mistakes to Avoid When Starting Your Health & Fitness Podcast

When it comes to starting a podcast, choosing the right name can be a crucial step.

Your podcast's name is often the first thing that listeners will see, and it can make a big difference in whether they decide to tune in or not.

Here are my tips to help you choose the right name for your health and fitness podcast

1. Keep it simple.

A simple, easy-to-remember name is more likely to stick in listeners' minds. Avoid using jargon or complicated words that may be hard to spell or pronounce.

2. Keep it to four words or less.

Speaking of keeping it simple… the average podcast name has four words or less.

3. Leave out ‘The’ and ‘Podcast’.

While adding "The" and "Podcast" to the title of your podcast might feel natural, it is not always necessary and can even hurt your podcast's discoverability on listening platforms.

When users search for a podcast on a platform, they typically search for keywords related to the content or topic they are interested in. If your podcast title includes unnecessary words like "The" and "Podcast," it can dilute the keyword density and make it less likely that your podcast will appear in search results.

It can be harder for listeners to find a podcast when you use words like 'the' and 'podcast'!

However, it's important to note that there may be instances where including "The" or "Podcast" in your title is appropriate or even beneficial, such as if your podcast has a specific branding or if you want to distinguish it from other content with a similar name. Ultimately, the decision should be based on what works best for your podcast and your audience.

4. Make it relevant.

Your podcast's name should be relevant to the content of your show. If your podcast is about running, for example, a name like "The Running Show" would be more fitting than something unrelated like "The Happy Hour."

5. Consider your target audience.

Who is your podcast for? Consider your target audience when choosing a name, and aim for something that will appeal to them.

6. Avoid using a name that's already taken.

Before you settle on a name, do some research to make sure it's not already in use. It’s not necessarily illegal to use the same podcast name as someone else; however, if the podcast name has been trademarked, it could create a legal risk.

Plus it might confuse listeners by having a similar name to another show.

7. Test it out.

Once you have a few names in mind, ask some friends, colleagues or producer (like us at Brave Moon Podcasts!) for their feedback. This can help you get a sense of which name is the most effective and memorable.

By following these tips, you can choose a name for your health and fitness podcast that's catchy, relevant, and easy to remember. Good luck!

Happy podcasting.
